Many people who study languages and want to become fluent or people who want to travel the world may have had the thought of traveling/studying abroad flow through their mind. There are many reasons to study abroad, but in this week’s blog I’m going to write about the 5 reasons to study abroad in high school.
1. You get to stay with a host family.
Staying with a host family gives you the opportunity to be around the language and learn how to deal with communication barriers. While studying abroad in college you will most likely be place in dorms around other foreign exchange students. Though they may still be from other countries there may still be the possibility of not being around people who speak the language fluently.
2. Gives you more knowledge about the world.
When studying abroad you get to hear and see more world news then you would be if you were in the States. Though I have heard news on terrorists attacks from all over the world; I have yet to hear other news regarding countries besides my own. Also while studying abroad you get to experience a different culture then what can be taught in a classroom.
3. You have more self-awareness.
Whether you study abroad in college or in high school you will be gaining a better understanding of surviving on your own by learning to communicate with others, depending more on yourself, and adapting to your surroundings.
4. Can help with job opportunities.
Studying abroad can help give you the extra help when applying for jobs that include international clients or any jobs in a traveling/ language field. To further explain, you will have a better understanding of the world and different cultures that will help you aid people in other jobs.
5. Learning a new language.
Now this is kinda self-explanatory, but it is a very good way to gather the language in a different setting than a classroom.
Overall, these are not the only reasons to study abroad and for sure aren’t all of them, but I hope these reasons will encourage others, like me, to explore the idea of studying abroad because an opportunity like this will change your life and give you a better understanding of the world you live in.
